Epic’s latest freebies mix tactical strategy, dice, and giant mechs

The Epic Games Store is back with another pair of free PC games, replacing last week's Mindcop and Shogun Showdown with two new titles that can be claimed and kept permanently. This week's lineup includes Mechabellum, which is making its Epic Games Store giveaway debut, alongside Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles, a roguelike that previously appeared as a free game for just 24 hours in December 2024.

Fortunately for anyone who missed Astrea the first time, Epic is giving players considerably longer to grab it this time. Both games are available until October 1, giving you seven days to add them to your library.

Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles takes a different approach to the roguelike formula by replacing traditional playing cards with customizable dice. You can build a collection of more than 350 dice, modify their faces with different actions and carefully manage the balance between Purification and Corruption during each run. The goal is to manipulate your dice and abilities to create powerful combinations while keeping the battlefield under control.

There are six Oracles to choose from, each with their own dice pools, abilities and playstyles. That allows you to approach each run differently, whether you prefer straightforward attacks or more calculated strategies built around clever combinations.

If dice-based roguelikes aren't your thing, Mechabellum offers something completely different. This tactical auto-battler puts much of the strategy before each battle, requiring you to select units, customize your army and carefully position your forces before watching them clash in 3D arenas.

Countering the opposing army is a major part of the experience, so simply assembling powerful units isn't enough. You'll need to anticipate your opponent's choices, adjust your formation and select upgrades that can change how your forces perform. The game supports 1v1, 2v2 and other modes, while Rift Mode introduces changing rules and additional challenges to keep matches unpredictable.

Both Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles and Mechabellum are free to claim on the Epic Games Store until October 1. Once redeemed, they remain in your library even after the promotion ends. Epic has also already revealed the next pair of freebies, whch will be System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster and Buried Stars.
