Radeon RX 9070 GRE reportedly heading to global markets very soon

AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 GRE may soon hit global markets outside of China

Rumors suggest AMD may soon launch the Radeon RX 9070 GRE globally after previously limiting the graphics card to the Chinese market. According to VideoCardz, retail packaging for the GPU has appeared without any Chinese branding, hinting that AMD could be preparing for a wider international release.

Additional evidence comes from US-based prebuilt PC listings that mention Sapphire Pulse and Sapphire Pure RX 9070 GRE graphics cards. This suggests the GPU may already be circulating among distributors and system integrators outside China ahead of an official announcement.

AMD originally introduced the GRE branding during the RX 7000 generation, where it stood for “Golden Rabbit Edition” to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. The company has since rebranded the label to mean “Great Radeon Edition.”

The Radeon RX 9070 GRE uses the same Navi 48 XL GPU found in the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, though with some reduced specifications. The card features 3,072 stream processors across 48 compute units, paired with 12GB of GDDR6 memory on a 192-bit memory bus. By comparison, the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT ship with 16GB of memory and a wider 256-bit bus. The RX 9070 GRE retains a 220W TDP, matching the standard RX 9070.

Performance-wise, previous testing from ComputerBase placed the RX 9070 GRE between AMD’s RX 9060 XT and RX 9070. According to those benchmarks, the RX 9070 was roughly 14% faster than the GRE model, while the RX 9070 XT led by about 29%. Meanwhile, the RX 9060 XT reportedly performed around 22% slower, positioning the RX 9070 GRE as a strong mid-range option in AMD’s lineup.

AMD has followed a similar strategy before with the RX 7900 GRE, which initially launched as a China-exclusive card before later expanding into global markets. With RX 9070 XT pricing already dropping closer to MSRP in several regions, some speculate AMD may be preparing shelf space for another GPU launch.

At the moment, AMD has not officially confirmed a worldwide release date for the RX 9070 GRE, though speculation points toward a possible announcement around Computex 2026.
