AMD expands its mobile CPU portfolio range with Ryzen AI 400 series

AMD unveils Ryzen AI 400 series mobile CPUs for AI-powered laptops in 2026

AMD has officially announced its Ryzen AI 400 series processors, confirming that the lineup will include both mobile and desktop variants. This also means AMD is preparing to launch its first Copilot+ desktop CPUs, further expanding the availability of NPU-powered AI computing on the PC platform.

Although the Ryzen AI 400 series does not introduce brand-new CPU architectures, AMD has refined its designs to boost performance across the board. Users can expect improved CPU, GPU, and NPU performance, alongside better power efficiency that translates into longer battery life for laptops. AMD has also focused on optimizing AI software for its hardware, unlocking additional performance improvements.

Below are the specifications for AMD’s Ryzen AI 400 series processors. Keep in mind that the lower-tier models in the lineup do not support LPDDR5X-8533 memory.

AMD Ryzen AI 400 Series Processors specs: Model, Cores, Max Boost, Cache, Memory Speed, NPU TOPS, Graphics CUs. CES 2026.

With the Ryzen AI 400 series, AMD has raised both CPU and GPU clock speeds, but the most significant enhancement is to the NPU. The updated NPU now delivers up to 60 AI TOPS, up from 50 AI TOPS in the previous generation, representing a 20% increase. Memory support has also improved, with LPDDR5X-8533 replacing the LPDDR5X-8000 limit found in the Ryzen AI 300 series.

On the graphics side, maximum GPU boost clocks have increased from 2.9 GHz to 3.1 GHz, while peak CPU boost clocks have climbed from 5.1 GHz to 5.2 GHz. While these gains are modest, they still contribute to overall performance improvements. According to AMD, Ryzen AI 400-powered laptops are capable of delivering multi-day battery life without sacrificing performance across everyday and demanding workloads.

Laptops featuring the new Ryzen AI 400 series processors are expected to launch later this quarter. However, AMD has not yet shared a release timeline for its upcoming desktop Ryzen AI CPUs.

While excitement builds around AMD’s next-generation AI-focused processors, gamers looking for top-tier performance don’t need to wait. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is already a highly regarded X3D processor, offering excellent frame rates and strong efficiency.
