The 20th-anniversary ROG Xbox Ally X handheld is now open for orders

ASUS launches ROG Xbox Ally X20 with OLED display and next-gen TMR sticks

ASUS has officially launched the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a special-edition gaming handheld celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Republic of Gamers brand. Although it retains the same core processor as the standard ROG Xbox Ally X, the anniversary model introduces a redesigned chassis, an upgraded OLED display, and several hardware refinements. However, those additions come at a considerably higher price.

At the heart of the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is AMD's Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with integrated Radeon graphics, paired with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB SSD, and an 80Wh battery. Its most notable upgrade is a 7.4-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, FreeSync Premium Pro support, and HDR brightness reaching up to 1,400 nits. ASUS also claims full 100% DCI-P3 color coverage and Pantone validation, promising vibrant visuals with accurate colors.

The controls have received attention as well. The handheld features magnetic TMR joystick sensors designed to deliver precise input while reducing the risk of stick drift. A configurable D-pad switches between four-way and eight-way movement, while rubberized grips and impulse triggers add to the gaming experience.

Visually, the X20 stands apart with a translucent black shell highlighted by subtle gold accents. ASUS has also redesigned its cooling system to improve thermal performance. According to the company, the updated fans use fewer blades with a larger diameter, increasing airflow by 20%. The heatsink's fin surface area has also grown by 11%.

Software improvements round out the package. The updated Armoury Crate interface offers improved UI scaling, Native and Vivid HDR modes, new Reactive and Immersion Aura Sync lighting effects, and more accessible game profiles.

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is now available for $1,299 / €1,399 / £1,299, making it $300 more expensive than the standard ROG Xbox Ally X launched in 2025. Collectors can also opt for a $2,499 / €2,599 / £2,299 bundle. It includes the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 gaming AR glasses, a custom dbrand Killswitch case, and a Pelican Protector Case, adding several premium accessories to an already expensive handheld.
