Razer Wolverine V4 brings new thumbstick tech to Xbox and PC gaming

Razer’s Wolverine V4 controllers aim to surpass TMR and Hall Effect sticks

Razer is expanding its premium controller lineup with the Wolverine V4 family, introducing two new options for PC and Xbox players. The range consists of the wireless Wolverine V4 Pro, which serves as the flagship model, and the wired Wolverine V4 Tournament Edition for gamers who want a more affordable option.

The Wolverine V4 Pro's biggest technical talking point is its new high-resolution capacitive thumbstick technology. Razer claims its custom magnetic sensing system can deliver better resolution, efficiency, and durability than the TMR and Hall effect sensors commonly found in high-end controllers. Since TMR has become one of the preferred technologies for premium gamepads, Razer's claims could make the Wolverine V4 Pro particularly interesting for competitive players.

The new sensors are paired with a 16-bit ADC that can detect around 3,000 movement steps, allowing for more precise and smoother stick input. Razer is also targeting extremely low latency, with the controller supporting an 8,000Hz polling rate on PC and response times below 1ms.

That 8K polling mode is exclusive to PC, however. Xbox Series X|S consoles are limited to a 250Hz polling rate, so console players will not be able to take advantage of the flagship controller's full polling capabilities.

Razer has also gone heavily into customization. The Wolverine V4 Pro features four removable rear buttons and two removable claw-grip bumpers, while its Pro HyperTriggers can be adjusted between 1.3mm and 8.2mm to let players choose their preferred actuation point. The controller also supports interchangeable thumbstick caps, a removable faceplate, different D-pad options, and textured grips.

Both models feature textured TPU side grips, PBT mecha-tactile face buttons, and an eight-way floating D-pad. Four onboard profiles can store different button layouts, trigger settings, and stick dead zones ranging from 0% to 15%, making it possible to prepare separate configurations for different games.

The Wolverine V4 Pro is now available for $199.99 / €209.99 / £199.99 while the wired Wolverine V4 Tournament Edition costs $99.99 / €109.99 / £99.99. With its high-resolution sensors, 8K PC polling, and extensive physical customization, the Pro model is clearly aimed at players willing to pay a premium for competitive-grade hardware.
