The next Call of Duty will be released this year

Players are currently immersed in Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War, Warzone, or even both, as Season 3 began just a fortnight ago. But Activision is already looking to the future of the franchise. There's no big surprise here, as the Call of Duty series has become a yearly affair, so spring is usually the time when we start to get information about the installment in development, as it's also the time for financial reviews.  

In recent weeks, there have been some rumors about this new installment codenamed Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard, which would be developed by Sledgehammer Games, creators of 2017's Call of Duty WWII. Although these rumors claimed that the game might be pushed back to 2022, Activision has denied this by confirming that the next Call of Duty will indeed be released this year, and we even have a release window. Daniel Alegre, president and COO of Activision, announced the good news: 

We are very excited for this year’s premium Call of Duty release. Development is being led by Sledgehammer Games and the game looks great and is on track for a fall release.

This is an experience built for next-generation with stunning visuals across campaign, multiplayer and co-operative modes of play, designed to both integrate with and enhance the existing COD ecosystem. We look forward to sharing more details with the community soon.

This statement should reassure fans of the license, who were put off by the latest rumors about the next Call of Duty game. It was also rumored that Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard could take place around 1945, in a reality where the war has not ended, or in 1950, at the beginning of the Korean War. This information has neither been confirmed nor denied, so any scenario is open at this time.
