AMD FSR SDK 2.2 update brings Upscaling 4.1 and Ray Regeneration 1.1

AMD FSR SDK 2.2 debuts with improved upscaling and ray regeneration tech

AMD has rolled out the FSR SDK 2.2, now available through GPUOpen for developers. This update is significant as it introduces the newest versions of AMD’s FSR Redstone technologies designed for RDNA 4 GPUs and the Radeon RX 9000 series, including FSR Upscaling 4.1 and FSR Ray Regeneration 1.1.

FSR 4.1 represents AMD’s latest AI-driven upscaling solution, aiming to deliver image quality on par with NVIDIA’s DLSS. Already available to PC players in games like Crimson Desert via updated Radeon drivers, this version improves sharpness, clarity, and detail - especially in motion. It also enhances the ultra-performance mode, which renders at lower resolutions, along with improvements to dynamic resolution scaling (DRS).

Meanwhile, FSR Ray Regeneration 1.1 serves as an AI-based denoising solution similar to DLSS Ray Reconstruction. It boosts the visual quality and realism of ray-traced effects, including reflections and global illumination, with Crimson Desert again being the first title to adopt the feature.

The FSR SDK 2.2 package bundles AMD’s full suite of FSR technologies. This includes Frame Generation 4.0.0 for RDNA 4 GPUs, alongside FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.1.5, FSR 2.3.4, and Frame Generation 3.1.6 for RDNA 2 and RDNA 3 hardware. The SDK supports DirectX 12 and also comes with an Unreal Engine 5 plugin, making it easier for developers to integrate upscaling and frame generation into their projects.

However, one notable omission is support for FSR 4 on RDNA 2 and RDNA 3 GPUs - something many in the community have been hoping for, given the noticeable leap in image quality compared to earlier versions.

Have you tried the latest FSR implementation in Crimson Desert yet? It’ll be interesting to see how widely these features are adopted throughout 2026. As always, for the latest updates on hardware launches and industry trends, be sure to follow our dedicated hardware coverage.
