FromSoftware needs more time to polish and improve The Duskbloods

The wait for The Duskbloods is going to be a little longer than expected. FromSoftware has confirmed that the game won't arrive until 2027, though its exact release date remains unknown.

Why FromSoftware pushed it back

FromSoftware announced the delay on October 29, 2026. The game is now due sometime in 2027, but no month or season has been announced. Originally planned for 2026, The Duskbloods is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, announced during the April 2025 Switch 2 Direct with a 2026 window. The company never gave an exact date for that window either, so the new 2027 target is as loose as the old one.

The announcement came through the game's official X account. The studio said development is at the final adjustment stage and that the move gives it time for "final adjustments to game rules and balancing." It also apologized to players who have been waiting and thanked them for their patience. FromSoftware also tied the decision to its network test. It said players showed real interest in the game's core ideas, including combat, strategic depth and player expression, and that it wants to build on them. Beyond rules and balancing, the studio hasn't said what will change.

Before confirming the 2027 release, the studio held an August network test that attracted thousands of players and provided valuable feedback. FromSoftware says both its own team and those players pointed out things to polish, including core systems and gameplay.

The story around that test isn't clear-cut. One early take called the tests successful and said many creators praised the game. Other reports said the test exposed performance problems with frame rates and latency, and one outlet reported that a first test was cancelled over server issues before more dates were set. 

Is this good news?

Mostly, in our view, delaying a game to improve it with community feedback is a good sign and it shows that FromSoftware has earned its fans' trust. Some outlets also said the delay had started to feel inevitable.

For a multiplayer game, where balance affects everything, taking extra time for rules and balancing makes sense. Still, it's worth keeping expectations in check.
