Ryzen 7 9850X3D pricing details and release date are now confirmed
AMD has officially revealed the Ryzen 7 9850X3D at CES, positioning it as an overclocked variant of what is widely regarded as the fastest gaming CPU available today - the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The key upgrade is a higher boost clock, which has been raised by 400 MHz to reach 5.6 GHz.
Aside from this increase, the processor retains the same specifications: 8 Zen 5 cores, 16 threads, 104MB of total cache, and a 120W TDP. As a result, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D will be sold alongside the Ryzen 7 9800X3D rather than replacing it.

And with that, AMD has confirmed both the launch date and pricing. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is set to release on January 29 with an MSRP of $499 USD. This places it just $30 above the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, a relatively small premium considering AMD claims gaming performance that is, on average, 27% faster than Intel’s flagship desktop CPU, the Core Ultra 9 285K.
That said, performance gains over the Ryzen 7 9800X3D itself are only a few percentage points, making the 9850X3D most appealing to those building a new system or upgrading from much older hardware. One notable detail from AMD’s announcement is that the second-generation 3D V-Cache used in the 9850X3D means high-frequency memory is not essential, allowing the CPU to pair well with more affordable DDR5 kits without sacrificing performance.

The impact of the higher clock speeds will vary depending on the game. Titles such as Counter-Strike 2 and Hogwarts Legacy see some of the largest improvements, while other games show little to no difference. Even so, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is expected to remain AMD’s fastest pure gaming processor until the arrival of Zen 6.
For gamers building a PC today, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D continues to be an outstanding option, offering excellent frame rates and impressive efficiency. It’s a proven X3D performer that pairs exceptionally well with high-end GPUs.
