Nvidia may bring back the RTX 3060 by restarting production of the GPU
NVIDIA began phasing out its GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs in 2024. Despite its initial release in 2021, this lineup remains the top choice among gamers on Steam, and although the 4060 and 5060 models are gaining traction, there are indications that NVIDIA may restart production of this GPU.
Although it is older, this GPU is regarded as a staple in the graphics card market. Its substantial 12GB frame buffer has enabled it to hold up better than other GPUs from its era. This characteristic has left many PC enthusiasts dissatisfied with NVIDIA's newer RTX XX60 series cards, as both the RTX 4060 and RTX 5060 only come with 8GB of VRAM.

The recent information comes from @hongxing2020, who has a reliable history of updates regarding NVIDIA GPUs and their production strategies. According to their latest report on January 5th, NVIDIA has informed its partners that the RTX 3060 is set to return in Q1 2026. Unfortunately, the source of this speculation does not clarify whether NVIDIA intends to reintroduce the RTX 3060 in either its 8GB or 12GB variant. The reasons behind this reported revival also remain uncertain.
There are rumors suggesting that NVIDIA will reduce its RTX 50 series GPU production by as much as 40%. Speculation points to a GDDR7 memory shortage, prompting NVIDIA to focus on its most profitable GPUs. It is claimed that production of the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB GPU has been halted due to the need for its memory to be reallocated more effectively.

The year 2026 may pose significant challenges for the GPU industry, particularly if the rumors regarding production cuts at NVIDIA turn out to be accurate. Should the supply of GDDR6 not be as restricted as that of GDDR7, 2026 could present a prime opportunity for AMD and Intel to capture market share, as both their RDNA 4 and ARC Battlemage GPUs rely on GDDR6 memory. Thus far, NVIDIA is the only company that has embraced GDDR7 memory.
In response to these shortages, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is highlighted as an immediate option. With 16GB of high-performance VRAM, a cutting-edge RDNA 4 architecture, and outstanding gaming efficiency, it provides the power and performance you’ve been anticipating without any delays.
