Nvidia's RTX 5090D V2 launches in China with reduced specs

Nvidia replaces Chinese-market RTX 5090D with a downgraded V2 model

Nvidia has launched its new RTX 5090D V2 graphics card in China, succeeding the original RTX 5090D with a variant designed to comply with the latest GPU export restrictions from the US.

With a suggested retail price of $2295, Nvidia's new RTX 5090D V2 matches the cost of the previous model. This is despite the fact that the new GPU variant comes with less VRAM than the original and a narrower memory bus.

Instead of the 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM found in the original, the new RTX 5090D model has only 24GB of VRAM. The memory bus width has also been reduced from 512-bit to 384-bit. This results in a 25% decrease in overall memory bandwidth and capacity. Like the standard RTX 5090, the RTX 5090D V2 maintains 21,760 CUDA cores and a thermal design power (TDP) of 575W.

Nvidia's announcement regarding the new graphics card does not reference the previous RTX 5090D model. It is understandable that Nvidia would prefer not to highlight the lower specifications of the new RTX 5090D V2 GPU. Additionally, Nvidia likely wants to avoid potential buyers discovering the GPU's decreased performance.

Chinese gamers have valid reasons to be frustrated with Nvidia’s RTX 5090D V2 graphics card. Much of this discontent can be directed towards the US government for effectively banning the sale of the RTX 5090D through export limitations. Nonetheless, Nvidia is responsible for setting the $2295 price on its new V2 model.

Partners are gearing up to offer custom builds with larger cooling systems and multi-fan configurations, which will likely be sold at higher prices due to high supply and demand. For gamers seeking local warranty and service in China, the RTX 5090D V2 is now the premium option.

While the RTX 5090 establishes a new standard for peak performance, top-tier power isn’t the only option available in the market. The RTX 5080 features remarkable next-generation capabilities, ultra-fast ray tracing, and DLSS 4 support—all at a more affordable price point. Whether you’re constructing a high-performance rig or upgrading your existing setup, the RTX 5080 offers outstanding gaming and creative functionalities at a reasonable cost.
