Valve raises Steam Deck pricing amid ongoing gaming chip shortages
Valve has officially increased Steam Deck pricing following months of stock shortages tied to the ongoing global component and memory supply crisis. The company had previously acknowledged that shortages affecting DRAM and NAND memory were disrupting production across its hardware lineup, leading to frequent Steam Deck stock issues in supported regions.
Now that new inventory has arrived, those refreshed units are launching with substantially higher prices attached. According to the updated Steam Deck product page on Steam, both the Steam Deck OLED 512GB and 1TB models have received major price hikes, with increases reportedly exceeding 35% in some regions. The jump significantly impacts the handheld’s reputation as one of the best value gaming PCs on the market.
| Model | US | Canada | Australia | Europe | UK | Poland |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam Deck OLED 512GB | $549 → $789 | $689 → $1,129 | $899 → $1,199 | €569 → €779 | £479 → £649 | 2,599 zł → 3,279 zł |
| Steam Deck OLED 1TB | $649 → $949 | $819 → $1,349 | $1,049 → $1,429 | €679 → €919 | £569 → £779 | 3,099 zł → 3,879 zł |
Valve has not issued an official press release or public statement explaining the increases. Instead, the company quietly updated pricing directly on Steam without additional commentary.
The rising costs appear closely linked to the ongoing surge in DRAM and NAND pricing. The explosive growth of AI datacenter infrastructure has dramatically increased demand for memory and storage components, driving prices sharply upward across the tech industry. DDR5 memory kits and SSDs now cost far more than they did a year ago, directly affecting devices like the Steam Deck that rely heavily on those parts.

Valve seemingly delayed these increases for as long as possible, but industry-wide pricing pressure has now forced the company to pass some of those costs onto customers. For a device built around affordability and strong price-to-performance value, the increases are especially noticeable.
The situation may also hint at pricing for Valve’s rumored future hardware projects. Speculation surrounding the Steam Machine reboot and the Steam Frame VR headset has continued to grow, and both devices are expected to use large amounts of modern DDR5 or LPDDR5X memory. If current memory prices remain high, those products could launch at significantly higher prices than many players expect.
For now, the updated Steam Deck pricing highlights how broader component shortages and AI-driven hardware demand are affecting consumer gaming hardware across the entire industry. Unless memory pricing stabilizes, higher prices for gaming handhelds, PCs, and other devices may become the new normal.
