AMD teases Zen 7 CPUs and provides new details on its GPU, NPU roadmap
At AMD's Financial Analyst Day in 2025, the company presented a new roadmap for their CPU lineup, showcasing the forthcoming Zen 6 and Zen 7 architectures. Unfortunately, AMD hasn't shared extensive details regarding the next-generation chips. However, it has been confirmed that Zen 6 will be TSMC’s inaugural 2nm offering. Furthermore, both Zen 6 and Zen 7 will incorporate enhanced AI functionalities.
AMD has announced that Zen 6 products are set to launch in 2026, although no release date for Zen 7 has been disclosed in the new roadmap. With the introduction of Zen 7, AMD plans to include a “new matrix engine” within its processors. Additionally, Zen 7 will feature new AI data formats and will employ a “next-generation” lithography node.
As AMD’s financial analyst day primarily concentrates on the company’s areas of growth, it has highlighted AI performance rather than traditional performance indicators. More information on Zen 6 is expected to be revealed as the launch of next-generation products approaches.

On the laptop front, AMD has specifically mentioned Medusa and Gorgon. The former involves laptop components utilizing the Zen 6 architecture, while the latter represents a mid-cycle refresh of the current Zen 5 products. Medusa is anticipated to encompass standard Medusa Point Ryzen AI components along with Medusa Halo, which is the Ryzen AI Max-branded successor to the Strix Halo. However, Medusa is not expected to debut until 2027, meaning the only new AMD laptop models expected next year will derive from the Zen 5-based Gorgon series.

Details concerning the GPU side are limited, with the presentation merely referencing the next generation of GPUs without offering a tentative release timeline or indicating any mid-cycle refresh for the existing RDNA 4 GPUs.
The Financial Analysts Day at AMD is still in progress, so there may be additional updates about Zen 6 as the event continues.
Although AMD's upcoming CPUs may be on the horizon, for those seeking high-end gaming performance right now, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D continues to set the standard. Featuring advanced 3D V-Cache technology, notable improvements in gaming performance, and established efficiency, it remains the perfect option for gamers aiming for smooth frame rates and outstanding responsiveness today.
