Will GTA 6 Come to PS4 or Xbox One?

No, Grand Theft Auto VI is not coming to PS4 or Xbox One, according to everything confirmed by Rockstar. As of October 23, 2026, the publisher lists GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with its launch scheduled for November 19, 2026. Neither Rockstar nor the official PlayStation Store lists a PS4 version, and Xbox One is not included in the confirmed platform lineup. Official Rockstar platform information and PlayStation Store listing confirm the current requirements.

Players still using last-generation consoles will therefore need another way to access the next chapter of Rockstar’s open-world crime series. Cloud gaming may offer an alternative sometime in the future, but availability depends on the service and its support for the game. Here is what is confirmed about the platforms and the options available to PS4 and Xbox One owners for GTA 6.

Will GTA 6 Be on PS4 or Xbox One?

No. GTA 6 will not launch natively on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Rockstar’s official platform information, last updated on August 18, 2026, identifies PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the supported platforms for pre-orders. The official PlayStation game page also explicitly states that the game is not playable on PS4. This means owners of last-generation consoles will not be able to install and run GTA 6 directly on their existing hardware when the game launches. The same applies to anyone hoping to use a PS4 or Xbox One copy of an earlier Grand Theft Auto game to access the new release: GTA 6 is a separate product for newer platforms.

Confirmed Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

Rockstar has confirmed two console families for GTA 6: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, according to the publisher's official website and its October 15 launch-trailer announcement.

The current platform lineup is as follows:

  • PlayStation 5: Confirmed. The official PlayStation Store lists GTA 6 as a PS5 title and identifies it as PS5 Pro Enhanced.

  • Xbox Series X|S: Confirmed. Rockstar's official website and support documentation list both Series consoles.

  • PlayStation 4: Not supported, as explicitly stated on the official PlayStation game page.

  • Xbox One: Not listed as a supported platform by Rockstar.

  • PC: No PC version or release date has been officially announced by Rockstar in the cited platform information.

The official listings establish which platforms players can plan around. They do not, by themselves, establish whether Rockstar might consider additional platforms in the future.

What Rockstar Officially Said

Rockstar's messaging has consistently focused on the current generation of consoles. Its official GTA 6 website lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while its customer-support page explains that pre-orders are available for those platforms.

In its August 27, 2026, announcement for Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, Rockstar also confirmed that the extended presentation had been captured entirely using in-game footage on PlayStation 5. The announcement reiterated the November 19 release date and the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S lineup.

Sony has provided an additional explicit clarification. Its official GTA 6 page states that the game will only be playable on PS5 consoles and will not be available for PS4.

These statements leave little room for ambiguity about the launch versions. Rockstar has not announced PS4 or Xbox One editions, and there is no official release date for either console.

Confirmed information versus rumors: Claims about a potential last-generation port should not be treated as announcements. Unless Rockstar updates its official platform list or publishes a specific announcement, reports or speculation about PS4 and Xbox One versions remain unconfirmed.

Last-Gen Alternatives: Cloud Gaming

If you still own a PS4 or Xbox One, cloud gaming is worth investigating, but it is important to distinguish between streaming a game and running it locally. Cloud gaming uses remote hardware to run a title and streams the result to a supported device. In principle, this can let players access games without owning the latest console, provided the service supports the specific title and the necessary subscription or purchase requirements are met.

However, GTA 6 cloud gaming is not yet a confirmed workaround for every PS4 or Xbox One owner. The launch platform list does not include those consoles, and a streaming service must explicitly support the game before players can rely on it. The practical advice is to check official service announcements before paying for a subscription or buying the game specifically for cloud play.

Pre-Order GTA 6

GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Players who want to secure a copy can use our comparator to find the best deals for GTA VI.

If you are still playing on PS4 or Xbox One, remember that buying the game will not make it compatible with your current console. Cloud streaming may become an option for some players, but it should not be considered a guaranteed way to play until the relevant service confirms support.
