AMD to launch a new enhanced RX 9070 variant to compete with the RTX 5070 Ti
A new leak from the YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead indicates that AMD is planning to release a higher-end graphics card based on the RDNA 4 architecture. This GPU will use the Navi 48 chip, similar to the current RX 9070, but optimized for maximum performance. Sources from a major U.S. retailer claim that AMD’s manufacturing partners have been informed about an "Ultimate Navi 48" GPU, which could launch in Q2 this year.
If this information is accurate, the new RX 9070 graphics card could offer performance between the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080. The exact product naming has not been confirmed, but MLID suggests that AMD might use names like RX 9070 XTX or RX 9070 XT Extreme Edition. Detailed specifications are not yet available, but the GPU will likely feature higher clock speeds and possibly faster VRAM.
Additionally, MLID also mentioned the supply situation of the RX 9070 series. According to reports, the initial shipment volume of RX 9070 cards was three times higher than the total number of Nvidia’s Blackwell RTX 5000 GPUs released since late January. It is expected that RX 9070 supply will remain more stable compared to Nvidia’s offerings in the near future. However, a key limitation is that only a portion of RX 9070 models are being sold at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). Once the first batch sold out, prices for these cards significantly increased.
Regarding market strategy, AMD has also confirmed that it will launch the RX 9060 series in Q2, offering more budget-friendly options for users. This could help AMD expand its market share while Nvidia struggles with Blackwell GPU supply constraints. However, some analysts predict that the actual market price of the RX 9070 XT may exceed AMD’s announced MSRP. According to MLID, the RX 9070 XT price in the U.S. could hover around $670, higher than the initial MSRP. In the UK, some RX 9070 XT models are still in stock, but their prices have already increased by approximately 10% over the launch price.
With a more stable supply than Nvidia, AMD may gain an advantage in the GPU market in the coming months. However, the real-world pricing of these new graphics cards will be a crucial factor in determining their appeal to consumers.
