Death Stranding Anime set for 2027 in Disney+ exclusive release

Hideo Kojima’s haunting universe is expanding once again — this time as a full-length anime series. Disney has officially announced Death Stranding Isolations (working title), an original 2D animated adaptation set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2027. The reveal came during the Disney+ Originals Preview event, where Kojima and series director Takayuki Sano appeared on stage to debut the project along with new concept art by Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045's character designer Ilya Kuvshinov.

The anime will be produced by E&H Production, the rising Japanese studio led by Sunghoo Park, and will present a completely new narrative within the Death Stranding universe rather than retelling the events of the games. According to the official synopsis, the story follows a small cast of characters scattered across North America as they struggle with isolation, loss, and survival in the wake of the Death Stranding catastrophe.

A New Story Parallel to Sam Bridges’ Journey

While Sam Bridges exists in the same timeline, the series centers on entirely new faces:

• An old man seeking salvation through unconventional means,

• A warrior driven to ignite endless conflict,

• A vengeful boy with a grudge against Bridges,

• And a girl confronting her loneliness.

Their paths eventually converge as humanity edges closer to collapse, forming a parallel narrative to the courier saga fans already know. Told through traditional hand-drawn animation, the project aims to blend Japanese artistry with global talent, reflecting the franchise’s growing international footprint. With a live-action A24 film and another animated project, Death Stranding: Mosquito, still in development, Kojima Productions is rapidly transforming its once-niche world into a multi-format franchise — and 2027 is shaping up to be a landmark year for longtime fans.
