Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Launches, Bringing Epic 50v50 Battles to Vietnam
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam has officially launched, opening up a completely new battlefield for Team17 and Expression Games' tactical FPS franchise. This time, instead of the battlefields of World War II, players are taken to the Vietnam War, where jungles, rivers, and challenging terrain can directly affect how each battle unfolds. With large-scale multiplayer and gameplay built around coordination, the game continues to focus on an experience where a single soldier cannot decide the outcome of a battle alone. Every squad, position, and decision on the battlefield can contribute to changing the course of the fight.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Turns the Terrain into a Strategic Weapon in War
Built around 50v50 matches, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam puts the North Vietnamese Army and US Armed Forces across six large maps inspired by the Vietnam War, along with gameplay modes such as Warfare and Offensive. However, the game's appeal is not just about its scale, but also about how the two sides make use of the battlefield. The US Armed Forces have helicopters for troop transport and battlefield support, while the North Vietnamese Army can build tunnel networks to create hard-to-predict routes and attack positions. Along the rivers, patrol boats provide another way to move around and control key areas. Combined with jungles, waterways, and challenging terrain, these elements make the maps more than just places where combat takes place. The environment itself becomes part of how players plan and approach each battle.
At the individual level, players can take on a range of specialised roles across infantry, recon, armour, mortar, and helicopter units. Even so, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is not focused on how many enemies a single player can take down. Communication, teamwork, and chain of command remain at the heart of the experience, with squads needing to work together to identify objectives, hold sectors, support one another, and react to changes across the battlefield. In Warfare, the two teams fight for control of five sectors, while Offensive divides the match between attacking and defending sides, making each firefight only one part of a much larger battle taking place across the map.
Before its official release, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam went through an open beta that attracted more than 350,000 participants. This large player base gave Expression Games and Team17 additional data and feedback on performance, stability, and gameplay. Following the testing period, the team decided to move the planned release date from June 18 to August 13 to give the game more time to be polished. A crossplay playtest was also held in July, preparing for players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S to join the same 50v50 battles. For a game that depends heavily on maintaining a large multiplayer community, connecting players across multiple platforms should also help preserve the scale of its battles after launch.
Following its release, community feedback has presented a fairly mixed picture. Many players have praised the battlefield atmosphere, gunplay, teamwork, and the differences in how the two sides operate. Bringing tunnel networks, helicopters, and river-based vehicles into the same battlefield system also creates situations that are different from what players have experienced in previous Hell Let Loose games.
On the other hand, some players have reported issues with audio, UI, performance, visual problems, and various bugs during the first few days. These issues have made the initial reception of Hell Let Loose: Vietnam less consistent. The development team has also started responding to reports from the community and has planned a hotfix shortly after launch, showing that work on improving the game is continuing beyond its release date.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is now officially available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game keeps the large-scale multiplayer foundation that has helped define the series, but places it in a battlefield where terrain, coordination, and each side's approach can be just as important as firepower.
