Intel unveils new CPU core designs for Nova Lake and Diamond Rapids
Intel has introduced the core architectures for its upcoming processors, Nova Lake and Diamond Rapids. Both of these CPUs will incorporate new core designs, with Nova Lake featuring Coyote Cove P-cores and Arctic Wolf E-cores, which are not found in Arrow Lake or in the soon-to-be-released Panther Lake CPUs.
The new core designs were disclosed in Intel’s latest ISA Extensions Reference document. This document also indicated that the Diamond Rapids datacenter CPUs would utilize new Panther Lake CPU cores.
For desktop applications, Intel's Nova Lake CPUs are anticipated to include as many as 52 cores, consisting of 16 P-cores, 32 E-cores, and 4 LP E-cores; the desktop flagship of Nova Lake is expected to excel in multi-threading performance. In mobile applications, Nova Lake is projected to have fewer core counts (up to 28 cores).

Intel is set to introduce its Panther Lake series of mobile processors. Next year, Nova Lake will debut with new designs for P-cores and E-cores. Panther Lake will feature Cougar Cove P-cores and Darkmont E-cores, replacing the Lion Cove and Skymont cores present in Arrow Lake. With the introduction of Coyote Cove P-cores and Arctic Wolf E-cores, Intel's next-generation desktop CPUs will experience two significant architectural advancements.
If Nova Lake boasts higher core counts and new core architectures, users can look forward to improved single-threaded performance along with greatly enhanced multi-threaded performance. It’s noteworthy that Nova Lake reportedly has more than double the maximum core count of Arrow Lake. Regardless, Intel’s 2026 desktop CPUs are expected to be outstanding for workstation demands. Additionally, if Intel can achieve single-threaded performance improvements, Nova Lake could represent the company’s best CPU launch in years.
