Intel upgrades its gaming handhelds with a new ARC GPU driver update

Due to a recent GPU driver update, Intel has significantly improved the integrated GPU performance of its ARC-equipped Core Ultra 200V Lunar Lake processors. At a standard TDP of 17W, Intel has reported notable performance enhancements with their ARC 140V GPUs. Average framerates have risen by 10%, while 99th percentile framerates have seen a 25% increase on average. Quite impressive for a free driver update.

This graphics update from Intel is available now for users of MSI’s Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+ handheld devices, and it will soon roll out for other systems utilizing the Intel Arc 140V & 130V iGPU line.

These performance enhancements seem to result purely from driver optimization. Both evaluations operate under a 17W TDP limit, indicating that power consumption remains the same across tests. Nine games were assessed, and the results include both Average FPS and 99th Percentile figures, reflecting a 10% average performance boost in FPS and a 25% improvement in the 99th percentile metrics. These results further demonstrate a significant advancement brought to handheld users by Intel's graphics team.

Although the average framerate improvements from Intel are commendable, the gains in lower percentile framerates deserve special recognition. This rise in lower percentile framerates will enhance the consistency of the gaming experience on ARC integrated graphics. Ultimately, the disparity between average and minimum framerates will be reduced.

This update clearly indicates that Intel is committed to remaining competitive in the gaming sector. ARC continues to be a fundamental aspect of Intel's future goals.
