A Mafia prequel is reportedly in the works
The fans of the Mafia series are on a rollercoaster right now. First, 2K announced that Haden Blackman, studio head and founder of Hangar 13, is leaving the company to "pursue his passion at a new endeavor." He will be replaced by Nick Baynes, Studio Head of Hangar 13 Brighton. This change in the leadership does not necessarily imply any internal turmoil or that the studio will follow other paths since Baynes has a wide experience with Mafia games due to his work on Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia Trilogy.
After becoming a hit among all those that wanted to create and manage their own criminal empire in an open-world scenario while following a thrilling storyline, the Mafia series is enjoying a second youth with the release of Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia II: Definitive Edition. These remastered versions of the original take the game to a new level with enhanced graphics and new features and have been the perfect accompaniment for Mafia 3, the latest installment in the popular series.
A Mafia prequel
Following the change of leadership reveal, several sources have reported that Hangar 13 is working on a new Mafia game, which would be a prequel. Kotaku has reported that the new game will be developed in Unreal Engine 5. That would mean a completely different graphic style than the one seen in the recent remasters, but it follows the current trend of other studios, which have seen Epic Games' new engine as a great tool to develop their upcoming projects.
In any case, it's great to know that Hangar 13 want's to expand the series beyond the original trilogy. We should be hearing more on this matter in the coming months. Feel free to visit our comparator anytime to get your Mafia Trilogy key cheap and enjoy an exciting life as a criminal.
