Nvidia's DLSS Override is revolutionizing GeForce RTX gaming PCs
As Nvidia launches their RTX 50 series graphics cards, they are also significantly upgrading their DLSS technologies with the introduction of DLSS 4. In a forthcoming update, Nvidia intends to implement DLSS Override within their Nvidia App, enabling users to utilize the latest DLSS models in older games.
DLSS 4 will introduce support for DLSS Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50 series GPUs, and all previous DLSS versions will receive an enhancement in quality thanks to the new AI models presented in DLSS 4. These upgraded models will be accessible to owners of RTX 20 series, RTX 30 series, and RTX 40 series GPUs, ensuring that all RTX users benefit from the latest DLSS AI advancements.
Nvidia has transitioned from Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to a novel transformer model with this iteration of DLSS. These new models contain twice the parameters compared to Nvidia’s earlier DLSS versions. This results in improved image stability, less ghosting, smoother edges, and greater detail in motion. In simpler terms, DLSS has received a notable enhancement in image quality.

With the DLSS Override feature, the Nvidia App can enforce the use of the latest DLSS models in games that do not natively support them. It is important to note that this feature cannot introduce DLSS support to games that lack it entirely; it merely overrides the existing DLSS support in a game with Nvidia’s new models. This leads to improved image quality and can also enable DLAA in games that do not offer native support.
Thanks to this feature, gamers can experience the benefits of Nvidia’s advanced AI models without the need for an official game update. This means that players can take advantage of Nvidia’s new Transformer-based DLSS versions without waiting for game updates, which is excellent news for gamers, especially for many DLSS-enabled titles that are no longer receiving updates.
