RTX 50 SUPER setbacks might stall Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 60 GPUs
Nvidia's RTX 50 SUPER series GPUs are reportedly delayed until Q3 2026, half a year later than the anticipated Q1 2026 release, due to a global DRAM shortage. This shortage is expected to significantly impact the supply of 3GB GDDR7 memory modules, which are crucial for the refreshed RTX 50 series lineup, including the rumored RTX 5070 SUPER, RTX 5070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 5080 SUPER. These modules offer 50% more memory per module than those used in Nvidia's non-SUPER RTX 50 series GPUs, providing a substantial memory capacity upgrade.
No cancellation yet, just delayed. Now planned to launch in 26Q3, previously set to launch in 26Q1. https://t.co/C3RmFv1uIq

Due to DRAM manufacturers struggling to produce sufficient DDR5 DRAM modules to satisfy demand, Nvidia’s suppliers may have postponed their planned expansions of 3GB GDDR7 chips in favor of creating more profitable DRAM types. If this situation is accurate, Nvidia might have to limit the use of 3GB GDDR7 modules for the time being.
Furthermore, there are reports suggesting that Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti 16GB could soon face supply shortages. If Nvidia has a restricted supply of GDDR7 memory, it might need to prioritize this memory for its more lucrative products. It's worth noting that the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB requires as much GDDR7 memory as the RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080. If Nvidia has to be selective with its memory resources, it will likely allocate this memory to manufacture its more profitable graphics cards.

A Q3 2026 launch for the RTX 50 SUPER series raises questions about the RTX 60 series, which is typically released every two years, with an expected launch in 2027. If the SUPER series arrives in late 2026, it could push the RTX 60 series launch to late 2027 or early 2028, as next-generation GPUs usually follow a "SUPER" series launch by about a year.
In light of these delays, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is presented as an immediate alternative. Featuring 16GB of high-speed VRAM, advanced RDNA 4 architecture, and exceptional gaming efficiency, it delivers the power and performance you’ve been waiting for without the wait.
