Thousands return to PEAK for its biggest update yet

PEAK’s Final Ascent sends player numbers soaring again
Updates & Patches

PEAK has already enjoyed one of the most surprising multiplayer success stories of the last year, and its latest update proves that players still aren't ready to stop climbing. The Final Ascent, the game's last major content update, arrived on August 11 and quickly brought a huge wave of players back to the mountain.

The update introduces two new biome variants, GLOOM and THE CITADEL, giving groups even more dangerous places to explore. GLOOM takes PEAK into darker and creepier territory with ghosts and new environmental threats, while THE CITADEL throws players into a fortress packed with obstacles and traps. Both areas are currently appearing in every daily mountain before eventually joining the normal biome rotation.

There are plenty of new toys to mess around with as well. The update adds items such as a Jetpack, Glider and the mysterious Warp Fungus, alongside new badges, cosmetics, progression changes and several hidden surprises. Ascent 8 has also been introduced for players looking for an even tougher challenge, while existing areas and mechanics have received balance improvements.

PEAK is climbing the Steam charts again

The update has clearly given PEAK another major boost. During July 2026, the game's Steam peak was around 24,000 concurrent players. Following The Final Ascent, that number jumped beyond 120,000 players, making this PEAK's biggest resurgence in a long time.

And that's impressive considering just how far PEAK has already come. What started as a relatively simple co-op climbing adventure quickly turned into a massive hit after release. Its mix of physics-based chaos, teamwork, survival mechanics and hilarious accidents made it the perfect game to play with friends — or watch someone else completely ruin a perfectly good climb.

PEAK eventually reached an all-time Steam peak of roughly 170,000 concurrent players, becoming far bigger than many expected. More than a year later, it is still capable of pulling six-figure player numbers whenever something big happens.

The Final Ascent may mark the end of PEAK's major content updates, but it's certainly not a quiet goodbye. With new biomes, new equipment and thousands of players heading back up the mountain, PEAK is ending this chapter on a serious high.
