PlayStation's upcoming wireless fight stick set for 2026 release
Sony has introduced the FlexStrike wireless fight stick, previously referred to as Project Defiant. This launch represents the first proprietary fight stick controller from PlayStation. Unfortunately for those eager to try it out soon, Sony has announced that it won’t be available until 2026, leading to a long wait for enthusiastic fighting game players.
Even though its release is still a ways off, a display model will be showcased at Evo 2025 (August 1-3). Sony indicates that this preview version of the FlexStrike may not accurately reflect the final product. To provide some context, while PlayStation users currently have access to third-party fight sticks, this will be Sony's inaugural entry into this market.
The FlexStrike will be compatible with both the PS5 and PC through a wired connection or wirelessly using PlayStation Link. It boasts mechanical switch buttons and tool-free swappable restrictor gates (square, circle, octagon) with built-in storage. Additionally, you can utilize simultaneous PlayStation Link audio by connecting the FlexStrike and a Pulse headset/earbuds on PS5 with a single USB adapter.
Sony also mentions that two FlexStrike sticks can be supported via a single PS Link USB adapter for local multiplayer, and it includes all DualSense Controller inputs (with the exception of the directional pad via lever and mute button), along with a touchpad. The controls can be adjusted with a built-in level mode switch and a lock button to prevent accidental inputs. To ensure user comfort, Sony has designed the stick with ergonomic features, including angled surfaces and a non-slip base.
While it’s been confirmed by Sony that the FlexStrike wireless fight stick will launch in 2026, the specific date or month remains unknown. This late entry into the market may lead to Sony losing customers who have already purchased fight sticks from other brands. For further details, stay tuned for announcements at Evo 2025, and consider signing up for news updates on its official FlexStrike website.
Although Project Defiant is still some time away, it’s evident that Sony is crafting something remarkable for fighting game enthusiasts. And with Marvel’s anticipated fighter on the way, there’s no better opportunity to gear up with the console it’s designed for.
