Steam’s Programming Fest lets you grab coding games for up to 90% off

Steam has plenty of themed sales throughout the year, but the latest one is aimed at a particularly niche audience. Steam Programming Fest 2026 is now live, offering discounts on games that mix programming, automation and puzzle-solving into their gameplay.

If variables, loops and functions sound more exciting than intimidating, there should be plenty here to keep you occupied. Discounts reach as high as 90% off, making the event a good opportunity to experiment with games that sit well outside the usual AAA lineup.

The event has its own one-minute showcase trailer featuring 15 games, with several coming from Zachtronics, the studio behind programming-focused cult classics such as TIS-100, SpaceChem and Exapunks.

A large portion of the featured games also offer free demos, so you can try them before spending anything. That is particularly useful for programming games, since their appeal can be difficult to judge from screenshots or trailers alone. Several titles also carry AI-generated content disclosures as Valve continues expanding transparency around AI usage on Steam.

One of the standout deals is shapez, which is currently available for 90% off. The factory-building game has earned around 96% positive reviews on Steam and focuses on creating increasingly complex automated production lines without unnecessary distractions. If you enjoy it, shapez 2 is also part of the sale at 50% off. Meanwhile, players who would rather embrace the hacker fantasy can pick up Anonymous Hacker Simulator with a substantial 75% discount.

Naturally, these are only a handful of the games featured during the event. With programming, automation and puzzle mechanics appearing across the lineup, there should be something worth trying whether you're already comfortable with coding concepts or simply curious about turning them into gameplay.

Steam Programming Fest 2026 runs from September 10 through September 14, so you'll need to act relatively quickly if you spot something interesting. The shorter duration is typical of Steam's Spotlight-style events, which tend to focus on specific genres and niche communities rather than running for an entire week.
