SULFUR 1.0 Update Enhances Gunplay and Prepares for Consoles

SULFUR 1.0 Brings More Gun Magic and Gets Ready for Consoles

A gun you’ve carefully upgraded can give you the confidence to push deeper, while also making every encounter more nerve-racking. SULFUR builds its appeal around those decisions: what to bring and how much you’re willing to risk for more loot. After two years in Early Access, Perfect Random’s roguelike FPS will officially reach version 1.0 on PC on October 28, 2026. It will also launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2, bringing that same mix of preparation, experimentation, and dangerous expeditions to console players.

More Magic, More Choices: How Far Will You Go in SULFUR 1.0?

In SULFUR, aiming well and pulling the trigger only solve part of the problem. Players also need to consider weapons, gear, tools, and enchantments before entering dangerous territory. Bringing a valuable item improves your chances of survival, but failure could mean losing it. Leaving it at home is safer, though you’ll have to make do without it. That tension between pushing further and protecting what you’ve earned gives preparation as much weight as a firefight.

An arsenal of more than 60 firearms, hundreds of items, and a cooking system provide the foundation for experimentation. These features have grown throughout Early Access; they aren’t all new additions arriving with version 1.0.

For anyone intrigued by Witchfire’s guns and spellcraft, SULFUR’s blend of firepower and magic may feel familiar. Attachments and enchantments let players modify their weapons, then combine them with other equipment to develop their own approach to combat. What matters is how a build holds up when enemies are actually closing in. Version 1.0 expands those opportunities to experiment while adding tools that make your journey easier to keep track of.

Perfect Random has announced the following changes:

  • A completed Enchantments system, adding five combined enchantments: Snowman Head, Water Bomb, Mud Ball, Evil Seed, and Teslacold.
  • A quest log to track current objectives.
  • Complete progression from beginning to end, with no new areas in this release.
  • Additional oils, including ones that help counteract bullet drop.
  • Melee hitstop, alongside balance adjustments, performance optimizations, and quality-of-life improvements.

The quest log is a less flashy addition than the new enchantments, but a useful one when players need to catch up on what they’re doing. Meanwhile, the completed enchantment system caters to those who enjoy trying different weapon combinations. The two changes serve different needs, each helping shape the full release.

Anyone waiting to play with friends should note that multiplayer won’t be included in version 1.0. Perfect Random plans to work on it after launch, but hasn’t announced a specific release window. The studio also intends to keep supporting the game with free updates.

For those who have followed the game through Early Access, this milestone offers a chance to return to a more complete adventure. For console players, it marks SULFUR’s debut on their platforms. To me, the most interesting part remains the freedom to tinker: a large arsenal only becomes truly compelling when players have reasons to explore different ways of using it.
