Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment have officially rolled out Update 8.0 for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, bringing with it a major new addition: Siege Mode. This free PvE feature is now live across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, offering players a fresh way to experience the brutal warfare of the Warhammer 40K universe.
The new Siege Mode introduces a co-op experience for up to three players, who must defend the strategic fortress world of Kadaku against endless waves of enemies. The combat is relentless, with players fighting off not just Tyranid swarms, but also Chaos forces such as the fearsome Thousand Sons. Structured around rotating sector defenses, players must survive through three main areas: Defensive Positions, Arsenal, and the Control Room. Each of them pits players against five escalating waves of enemies. Once wave 15 is cleared, the mode enters an infinite phase, where difficulty spikes and prep time shrinks between waves, testing players' skill and coordination to the limit.
Siege Mode features a layered objective system. Alongside wave survival, players take on side missions like securing critical zones or retrieving data-slates. These optional goals reward teams with resources that can be spent on powerful reinforcements. These include additional Space Marines, Cadian Guard NPCs, and even a devastating Dreadnought to turn the tide of the battle. Boss encounters add further tension, with hulking foes such as Carnifexes, Helbrutes, and Neurothropes appearing at regular intervals.
Update 8.0 also introduces several quality-of-life improvements and visual upgrades. A session timer has been implemented to maintain performance stability across platforms, especially during prolonged infinite runs. This feature is expected to evolve or be removed as future updates optimize the mode. Additionally, private matches now offer the option to play without AI companions, giving players the freedom to challenge Siege Mode solo or in tighter squads. PC players can enjoy enhanced visuals with new DLSS 4 support and experimental RTAO settings for NVIDIA’s 50-series GPUs.
Alongside gameplay content, two new cosmetic packs are included in this update. The White Scars Chapter Pack introduces new armor designs, unique weapon skins for the Bolt Carbine, Sniper Rifle, and Combat Knife, as well as chapter heraldry. The Blood Angels Pack adds three distinctive armor pieces and customization options that pay tribute to the iconic successor chapter. These cosmetic sets are available to Season Pass holders and can also be purchased separately.
While players have embraced the challenge and cooperative strategy of Siege Mode, some debate has emerged over the inclusion of the session timer. Although designed to ensure console stability during prolonged matches, some fans have expressed hopes for a more open-ended horde experience in future patches. Developers have acknowledged this feedback and indicated potential improvements down the line.
With its mix of strategic wave defense, brutal melee, and fan-favorite lore elements, Siege Mode marks a bold new chapter for Space Marine 2. Update 8.0 delivers not only challenging gameplay but also significant visual and mechanical enhancements, reaffirming the game's place as one of the most successful titles in the Warhammer 40K franchise today.
