Xbox rolls out new Highlight Reels feature for ROG Xbox Ally X users
Microsoft’s ROG Xbox Ally handheld lineup, first introduced in 2025, continues to gain new functionality. The latest addition, called Highlight Reels, has now entered public testing. This feature automatically records notable gameplay moments, allowing users to share clips without opening menus or using button shortcuts mid-game.
According to Gabriel DesGarennes, Principal Product Manager at Xbox, the tool is designed to make capturing standout moments - such as intense boss fights or major victories - quick and effortless. Players won’t need to install extra software, and clips can be generated seamlessly in the background so gameplay remains uninterrupted.
To access the feature, users need to join the Xbox Insider Program and enable recording options through Game Bar, Gaming Copilot, or Windows settings. Gaming Copilot handles background recording during play sessions, and once the session ends, a highlight reel is automatically compiled. Players can then review and share these clips through the Game Highlights (Preview) section in the Xbox PC app.

For now, Microsoft has specifically mentioned the ROG Xbox Ally X as the device participating in this testing phase, suggesting the standard Xbox Ally may not yet support the feature. It’s also unclear whether Highlight Reels will eventually roll out to other Windows-based systems, such as desktop PCs or laptops.
At launch, compatibility will be limited to select titles. The current list of supported games includes Among Us, Lies of P, Elden Ring, Overwatch, Fortnite, Palworld, and Forza Horizon 5.
Conversely, if you’re looking for a handheld device that is well-established, finely tuned for top-tier performance, and crafted for serious gaming on the go, the ROG Ally emerges as an exceptional choice. With its long-lasting battery life, enhanced ergonomics, and complete Windows functionality, it exemplifies the aspirations for future handheld gaming.
