AMD has officially introduced a new budget-friendly X3D series CPU for its AM4 CPU platform, known as the Ryzen 5 5500X3D. Set to launch on June 5th, this processor enters the market quite late in the lifecycle of AMD's newer AM5 CPU socket, making its release somewhat unexpected.

Similar to other CPUs in the Ryzen 5000 series, the 5500X3D features the Zen 3 CPU architecture, which is now two generations behind the latest Zen 5 CPUs. With AMD recently teasing its upcoming Zen 6 series processors, it seems unusual for the company to release a new Zen 3 CPU.

According to AMD's website, this new X3D series chip will only be available in the LATAM (Latin American) market. With Base/Boost clock frequencies of 3.0 GHz and 4.0 GHz, it notably underperforms compared to AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X3D.

Details about the pricing or sales strategy for this new AMD CPU remain unclear. It is anticipated to be featured in gaming-oriented system builds, serving as an affordable CPU option for gamers. Regardless of AMD's sales approach, we foresee limited availability of these CPUs.

In essence, this CPU is characterized as a Ryzen 7 5700X3D with a reduced core count (six cores instead of eight) and lower clock speeds. Therefore, we expect this CPU to be budget-friendly. It occupies a niche in the inexpensive gaming CPU market. However, it is important to note that Zen 3 feels outdated by current standards, and 4 GHz is no longer particularly impressive.
