New RX 9070 XT Drivers Boost FPS by Up to 27%
New tests from Hardware Unboxed show that AMD’s latest GPU drivers have provided notable performance enhancements for the Radeon RX 9070 XT in a broad array of games.
AMD is putting effort into optimizing the performance of its RDNA 4-based graphics cards, leading to improved framerates in numerous titles. In the accompanying video, Hardware Unboxed reported performance increases reaching up to 27%, demonstrating the impact that updated GPU drivers can achieve. It seems that AMD’s GPU drivers are improving as time goes on.
At 1440p, an average boost of 9% in performance was observed across 16 games. Four games exhibited no changes in performance with AMD’s latest drivers. Twelve games experienced performance improvements, with framerate enhancements spanning from 3% to 27%. The most significant performance improvements were recorded in Spider-Man Remastered, Counter-Strike 2, and Hogwarts Legacy, which saw gains of 27%, 23%, and 18% respectively.
At 4K resolution, the performance boosts were less pronounced compared to 1440p. On average, the RX 9070 XT achieved a 4% improvement across the 16 titles evaluated at 4K. Seven of the tested games did not show any performance increase at this resolution.

In Counter-Strike 2, Hardware Unboxed identified the largest performance increase at 4K, with a 14% boost. This increase is significantly lower than the 23% jump observed at 1440p. The reason behind the smaller performance increases at 4K remains uncertain, although it has been suggested that AMD’s utilization of GDDR6 memory might be a factor. Is the RX 9070 XT constrained by bandwidth at 4K?
If AMD maintains its focus on driver optimization, continued performance enhancements for RDNA 4 graphics cards are likely. Not only does RDNA 4 represent a fresh architecture for AMD, but it also appears during a period where the company has become more focused on software.
If you're looking to maximize your power for 4K gaming and the most intensive creative tasks, the Radeon RX 9070 stands out as the premier option. As always, for the latest news on hardware launches and industry developments, be sure to follow our dedicated hardware coverage.
