Epic Games Store offers Civilization VI Platinum Edition for free

The Epic Games Store has just updated its weekly giveaway, replacing last week's offers of Figment 2: Creed Valley and Sky Racket with another major title: Sid Meier's Civilization VI. This isn't just the standard edition available; it includes key expansions and DLC as part of the Platinum Edition. As per usual, you have a week to permanently add this title to your Epic Games Store library.

Created by Firaxis Games, Civilization VI is a turn-based 4X strategy game that has become a fan favorite, maintaining a larger player base than its sequel. For those who might not be familiar, "4X" refers to exploring, expanding, exploiting, and exterminating as players embark on world-conquering campaigns.

This open-ended strategy game begins in the ancient era, allowing players to gradually research technologies, develop cultures, and encounter other civilizations across the map. Progressing through different eras leads players into the modern age, complete with its unique wonders and challenges. Each match can be won in various ways, such as through science, culture, religion, domination, or diplomacy victories, which necessitate specific advancements.

Since this giveaway includes the Platinum Edition, players also gain access to a variety of expansions and DLC packs. This encompasses the highly regarded Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions that introduce more complex simulation and management systems to the game, in addition to six DLC packs that feature new civilizations to control or compete against, along with numerous scenario packs.

The giveaway for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Platinum Edition is currently active on the Epic Games Store. It is set to run until July 24. When not part of a promotion, this extensive pack typically retails for $79.99.
