Fangtopia: A Place Where Every Monster Belongs
If you could build a world for friendly monsters, what kind of home would you give them? Fangtopia offers a glimpse of the possibilities through dark forests, misty peaks, and ghost trains passing through little villages. In this setting, werewolves, yetis, and scarecrows have a playful charm that makes finding a place for each resident a pleasure. The game from developer Absolutely Games and publisher Secret Mode invites you to piece together a Halloween kingdom of your own, then slow down and watch it gradually come to life.
A Halloween World That Feels Spooky, Playful, and Welcoming
Starting with a castle, you expand your realm to welcome creatures emerging from mysterious portals. Patches of forest join together, villages spread out, and mountains gradually take shape. Against the deep blue backdrop, orange light spilling from windows adds a little warmth, while peculiar buildings lend the scenery a mischievous touch. It feels like assembling a miniature Halloween diorama, with something to admire from every angle.
The residents have endearing personalities of their own. In the official Tales of the Topia stories, Silly Scarecrow enjoys keeping crows company and entertaining them, while Wily Werewolf has a taste for sweets. These little tales add humor to the world of Fangtopia, making the idea of building a home for monsters feel all the more relatable. As new residents arrive, the kingdom fills with more movement and sound. You can watch ghost trains roll by, interact with creatures to discover their reactions, or open the Stickerbook for a closer look at the monsters and buildings you have found. Sometimes, simply pausing to admire a newly completed corner of your world is a pleasure in itself.
To keep that world growing, each run gives you a limited stack of tiles with an element of randomness. You rotate and place them to match terrain features and score points; reaching score milestones presents you with a choice of Landmarks. Meeting these buildings’ requirements earns you more tiles, while fulfilling portal objectives brings new residents into your kingdom. The run ends when you run out of tiles.
That randomness brings a few surprises to each run, while the objectives give you a reason to place just a few more tiles. With no timer rushing you along, you can take your time finding a spot that suits the landscape and helps your kingdom grow. Short runs in Fangtopia mode fit neatly into a break, while Ghoulish offers larger worlds and Island lets you connect islands with ghost train tracks. A gentle soundtrack and optional ASMR audio help maintain the relaxed atmosphere.
If you enjoy the relaxing tile-placement gameplay of Dorfromantik, you will find something familiar in Fangtopia. Pieces of terrain come together to form a small world, this time with a Halloween flavor: castles, ghost trains, and quirky residents waiting for a place to call home.
For those who want to bring a little of that Halloween atmosphere beyond the game, Fangtopia also offers a separately sold Supporter Pack containing a digital soundtrack and artbook, desktop wallpapers, printable sticker files, and a 3D-printable Yeti blueprint. The pack provides digital collectibles for players who want to support the developer. On Steam, the Supporter Pack is distributed as DLC and therefore requires ownership of the base game, even though its included files are used outside the game.
Fangtopia launched on October 26, 2026, for PC, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2. For me, its appeal lies in the way it turns familiar Halloween imagery into a welcoming place to unwind after a long day.
