Score an award-winning Metroidvania game for free at Epic Games Store

The Epic Games Store has refreshed its weekly giveaway once again. With The Stone of Madness no longer available, a new free title has taken its place - this time, an award-winning Metroidvania game has landed for all PC gamers to grab.. As usual, players have seven days to claim it and keep it permanently in their library.

Released in 2023 by developer Muro Studios, Doomblade delivers a fast-paced action experience within a Metroidvania framework. You play as Gloom, the last of her kind, who wields a sentient and deadly weapon known as the Doomblade. Together, they embark on a quest to reclaim lost powers and seek revenge against those who once sealed the blade away.

One of the game’s standout features is its unique control system, which allows for precise, mouse- or thumbstick-based targeting. This mechanic lets you zip through the air and strike enemies directly, creating a fluid combat style that blends movement and offense seamlessly while dodging hazards mid-flight.

Throughout the adventure, players will encounter a variety of enemies, unlock new abilities, and explore interconnected environments filled with danger. Progression is tied to exploration and skill upgrades, gradually enhancing your combat potential as you push deeper into the game. While it doesn’t drastically reinvent the genre, Doomblade still offers an engaging and polished experience.

The game currently holds a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with praise directed toward its soundtrack, responsive controls, and satisfying movement. It also earned 3rd place in the Action category at the 2023 Game Development Championship, further highlighting its quality.
