Intel's CEO unexpectedly showcases the 1.8nm Panther Lake chip
At the Lenovo Tech World 2024 event, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger delivered a speech about the partnership between Intel and Lenovo. More importantly, during the event, Pat also handed Lenovo’s Chairman Yuanqing Yang a sample of the Panther Lake processor chip, manufactured using the 18A process. This gesture implied that Intel's manufacturing node had achieved positive results and was ready for commercial production.

From a consumer perspective, it is likely that we will see the Panther Lake platform appear early next year on Lenovo devices and those from other OEMs. About two months ago, information surfaced indicating that the 18A process and the Intel chips produced with it were essentially functional and ready for release early next year.
In his statement before leaving the stage, Pat Gelsinger said: "We have worked together on products like Meteor Lake, Lunar Lake, and Core Ultra PCs, with impressive battery life, CPU, GPU, and NPU performance. But things don't stop here, so I want to present to everyone our first Panther Lake sample. This is the next 18A product that we are about to launch, demonstrating the efforts we are making."

So far, the known details about Panther Lake suggest that its name is likely to be Core Ultra 300, with architectural improvements to the P-core (Cougar Cove) on the CPU Tile cluster. The GPU Tile cluster, featuring an iGPU codenamed Celestial Xe3-LPG, is rumored to be manufactured on TSMC’s 2nm process, but this remains uncertain until the chip officially launches.
