All you need to know about GTA 6 crossplay and cross-progression
According to everything confirmed about GTA VI so far, the game will not have crossplay at launch. Rockstar Games has yet to announce any cross-platform multiplayer functionality. The situation is straightforward for now: GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as a single-player experience. Neither Rockstar nor the official platform listings have confirmed a multiplayer mode that would let players on different systems connect.
That does not necessarily rule out an online component in the future. However, speculation about a potential successor to GTA Online should not be confused with an announced feature. Here is what Rockstar has confirmed, what remains uncertain, and what the history of GTA Online tells us about the possibilities for crossplay and cross-progression.
Is GTA 6 cross-platform?
No confirmed crossplay or cross-progression features have been announced for GTA 6 as of October 21, 2026. Rockstar's current product information describes the game as a single-player experience, rather than a multiplayer title. Crossplay allows players on different platforms to play together, while cross-progression lets them carry their progress, characters, or other game data between platforms. Neither feature has been officially confirmed for GTA 6, so far.
The game will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. Although players will be able to choose between these two console families, that does not mean they will be able to connect with one another in a shared online world. A multiplayer mode would need to be announced before crossplay could become a meaningful launch feature.
PC availability is another open question. Rockstar's currently announced launch platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version confirmed for release on November 19. Consequently, there is no official PC version with which console players could use crossplay at launch, although rumor has it that GTA 6 may arrive for PC in 2027.
What Rockstar and the store listings officially say
The available official information supports the same conclusion: Rockstar has announced a single-player launch, but has not confirmed crossplay or cross-progression.

The absence of crossplay information simply means that players should not treat the feature as part of the confirmed launch package. The same applies to cross-progression. Rockstar has not announced whether GTA 6 has online multiplayer at launch. A future online mode would allow players to transfer characters, money, vehicles, or other progress between platforms, if the game finally supports crossplay and cross-progression.
Crossplay rumors and leaks — what we actually know
Interest in GTA 6 crossplay is understandable. The game is launching on two major console platforms, and many players would prefer to share an online world with friends regardless of their hardware.
Confirmed information: Rockstar has announced a single-player experience for November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No official announcement has established crossplay, cross-progression, or a GTA 6 multiplayer launch mode.
Rumors and speculation: Discussions about a future GTA Online successor frequently raise the possibility of cross-platform play. Some players expect Rockstar to expand its online infrastructure or introduce a more unified multiplayer environment. All of these are plausible possibilities, but they remain speculation unless backed by Rockstar. The same applies to claims about account transfers. GTA Online's existing progression and migration systems offer useful context, but they do not guarantee that Rockstar will carry the same functionality into a future GTA 6 online experience.
Crossplay in GTA Online: how it worked
The original GTA Online provides a useful reference point, although its platform restrictions should not automatically be applied to a potential successor. Despite operating across multiple generations of consoles and PC storefronts, GTA Online does not offer universal crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Players need to use compatible versions of the game on the same platform family to join one another. Rockstar Support explicitly states that PC players using different PC storefronts, such as Steam, the Epic Games Launcher, and the Rockstar Games Launcher, can use cross-network play. It also clarifies that PC players cannot play with console players through this functionality. Cross-network play between PC storefronts is not the same as crossplay between PC and consoles.
GTA Online has also supported certain account and character migration options, allowing eligible players to transfer progress between specific versions or platform generations. However, Rockstar's existing systems have had platform-specific restrictions, so players should not assume that owning the game on two systems automatically makes progression interchangeable.
For GTA 6, these precedents offer context, but they are not a prediction. Rockstar could maintain similar restrictions, expand cross-platform functionality, or introduce a different system for a future online mode. Until the company announces its plans, none of these outcomes is confirmed.
Pre-order GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The GTA 6 launch trailer is already available to watch. The releases on both platforms are officially confirmed, and pre-orders are available through the relevant stores and retailers.
If you are choosing where to buy the game, crossplay should not currently be the deciding factor: Rockstar has not announced a multiplayer feature that would let PS5 and Xbox players play together at launch. You can compare available editions and prices before purchasing. Just use our comparator to pre-order GTA VI at the best price.
The bottom line is simple: GTA 6 is launching as a single-player game, and crossplay and cross-progression remain unconfirmed. If Rockstar announces a multiplayer mode or a successor to GTA Online, those features may become relevant, but until then, claims about cross-platform support remain speculation.
