Lootbound Launches, Blending Turn-Based Strategy and Loot Management
Lootbound officially launched on Steam on August 14, taking players into a dark fantasy world where each run starts with a single character and gradually grows into a full party. Combining tactical roguelite gameplay with turn-based combat, loot management, and elements inspired by D&D, the game puts a strong focus on route choices, party building, and making the most of every piece of equipment. One of its standout features is the grid-based inventory system, where the position of your equipment can directly affect the effectiveness of your build. After spending time as a demo and gathering feedback from the community, Lootbound has now officially entered its 1.0 release.
Lootbound Turns Equipment Placement into Part of the Strategy
Developed by ArtDock and published by Dreland Enterprises, Lootbound takes players on a roguelite journey built around individual runs. Each adventure begins with a single hero, after which players travel across the map, choose different routes, weigh risks against rewards, and meet and recruit new companions to build their party. Every choice can affect how a run develops, making the decision between playing it safe or taking a chance for better rewards an important part of the gameplay.
Combat in Lootbound takes place in turns and focuses on how players build their party and make use of their equipment. Each hero and companion has their own set of equipment, while items are not restricted to fixed slots. Players can rotate and place them on the inventory grid as long as there is enough space. This system is about more than simply finding room for your loot, as many items also have Aura and Synergy effects that can interact with other pieces of equipment, opening up different ways to build your characters.
The damage system is also designed to encourage players to look for the right combinations of equipment and abilities. Different types of damage interact with enemy armor and HP in different ways, allowing players to focus on armor penetration, exhaustion, armor destruction, or direct damage. Alongside this is a dice-based choice system, where decisions made along the way can lead to appealing rewards while also carrying their own risks.
Before its release, Lootbound gave players time to get familiar with its gameplay through a free demo released in February 2026. The demo currently has more than 600 reviews on Steam and maintains a Very Positive rating, with around 88% of reviews being positive. It also gave ArtDock an important source of feedback to continue refining the gameplay, from combat and companion AI to inventory management and how information is presented during play.
One of the notable milestones before launch was Lootbound winning the People's Choice Award at Nordic Game 2026. The award was voted on by event attendees after they experienced the indie games featured there, making it a positive sign of the attention the game had received before its full release.
However, feedback before launch also showed that Lootbound is not without areas that have sparked discussion. Some players in the community praised its inventory concept, build variety, and atmosphere, while difficulty and progression speed were among the aspects mentioned by some players. These opinions will need more time to be properly evaluated now that the 1.0 version is available to a larger player base.
At this point, Lootbound is officially available on PC through Steam. The full release is a fitting choice for players who enjoy tactical roguelites, turn-based combat, and especially build systems that require them to think about both which item to use and where to place it. With gameplay built around choices, risk, and the freedom to create different character builds, Lootbound has now opened the door for players to discover their own runs.
If you're looking for a new tactical roguelite to try, Lootbound is now available on Steam and could be worth checking out, especially if you enjoy managing your inventory and experimenting with different builds.
