Nintendo’s Switch 2 console reportedly can’t be used until its day-one update is installed

Nintendo's Switch 2 console is set to launch next week, and some gamers have already managed to get their hands on the new device. These users quickly found out that their Switch 2 is inoperable, as the console requires a day-one update to function correctly.

The Game Business has also reported that Nintendo's new console needs a "significant day-one patch" to operate. This requirement is limiting analysts from providing reviews of the console before its launch. As a result, there will be no preliminary reviews for Nintendo's new console ahead of its June 5th release.

Gaming news and deals poster Wario64 shared that they received messages—complete with supporting images—from another Switch 2 owner who got their console early. "I don’t have permission to share pictures," Wario64 stated in a social media post, "but I can mention that when they attempt to start a Switch 1 game, a message appears saying 'Please connect to the internet and update your system.' An update is required to access a game."

Another person shared with me that they have a Nintendo Switch 2 as well. I have no permission to post pics but can share that when they try to boot a Switch 1 game, a message prompts "Please connect to the internet and update your system."
