Nintendo Switch 2 fully revealed, with a potential launch in March
A Reddit leaker known as “NextHandheld” has disclosed extensive information regarding Nintendo’s forthcoming Switch 2 console. They also claim to possess a finalized version of the console. The leaker states that they will provide evidence to support their claims before Christmas and has made the following assertions about the device.
- The device will be named “Switch 2.”
- The official announcement of the console is expected in January 2025.
- The release of the console is anticipated in mid-March.
- At launch, the console will come in white and grey, with additional themed versions to follow.
- New Joy-Cons – Designed with magnetic attachments and Hall-Effect joysticks.
- Screen dimensions – 8 inches.
- Screen type – LCD.
- Dock – Features a rounder design compared to the original Switch.
- It will maintain the same cartridge slot design as the original Switch.
- It is rumored to support 4K resolution when docked.
If these assertions hold true, Nintendo’s new console will be backwards compatible with original Switch games. The new model will also be larger than its predecessor, due to the increased screen size. Moreover, Nintendo is likely to have resolved the “Joy-Con Drift” problem by incorporating Hall Effect joysticks.
The recent surge of leaks online is a clear sign of how excited players are about the Nintendo Switch 2—and they’re not alone. According to Paul Gate, attendees at this year’s The Game Awards after-party shared highly positive feedback about the system, with some confirmed instances of dedicated support being particularly encouraging.
My take away from The Game Awards after party regarding the successor to Nintendo Switch was VERY positive.

Many people that I spoke to were excited to see the system, hyped over what Nintendo’s games were going to look like next generation, or ready to play more modern…
One drawback of the new Nintendo Switch is the decision not to include an OLED display in the next-generation handheld. This could result in a lower visual quality compared to the Switch OLED, making the new model a downgrade in this aspect. It is probable that Nintendo will eventually release a premium next-gen Switch OLED, particularly since the Switch OLED was well-received, and Nintendo often launches multiple versions of their consoles.
