Slay the Spire 2 receives a major Early Access update
Mega Crit has deployed a substantial early access update for Slay the Spire 2, moving a large set of previously tested beta features into the main version of the game. The patch, version 0.103.2, represents the first broad consolidation of experimental changes, signaling a transition from short-term testing to more stable iteration. As the studio stated after deploying earlier changes, this is all part of the process and the current state of the game doesn'r represent the definitive version of the game's balance.
Multiple improvements
Rather than introducing a single headline feature, the update focuses on integrating multiple systems and adjustments that collectively reshape the player experience. This includes progression tracking, gameplay balance, and technical performance.
Key System Changes
The update redesigns progression and competitive tracking systems. The developers have reworked how performance is measured and displayed, aiming for greater clarity and fairness.
- Leaderboards now emphasize run outcomes and efficiency rather than abstract scoring
- Badge systems have been restructured to better reflect player achievements
- The overall progression interface has been simplified for readability
Mega Crit has acknowledged that while the system is more transparent, it may not yet fully prevent leaderboard manipulation, as the team is prioritizing usability over aggressive anti-cheat measures at this stage.
Gameplay Adjustments and New Additions
Balance changes form a significant portion of the update, with particular attention given to character viability and strategic diversity.
- New cards have been introduced, including additional sustain options for certain playstyles
- Underperforming cards and relics have been rebalanced or removed
- Enemy encounters and events have been adjusted to improve pacing and difficulty curves
These changes indicate a broader design goal: reducing reliance on narrow “optimal” builds and encouraging experimentation across runs.
Mechanical Reworks and Stability Improvements
In addition to balance updates, several in-game systems and encounters have been revised.
- Specific mechanics, including certain event interactions, have been reworked for consistency
- Stability has been improved, especially during transitions between rooms
- Cloud save functionality has been added, enhancing cross-device continuity
Bug fixes also address edge cases that previously caused crashes or unintended behavior, contributing to a smoother overall experience.
Ongoing Development Approach
Mega Crit continues to emphasize that Slay the Spire 2 remains in active development. Features that have moved out of beta are not considered final and may be revisited based on community feedback and internal testing.
With this update, Slay the Spire 2 takes a meaningful step forward in its early access phase, refining core systems and establishing a stable foundation for future updates. Players can expect further adjustments as the developers continue to respond to feedback and evolve the game's mechanics over time.
