The Elder Scrolls Online changes its loot boxes system
Loot boxes are quite a controversial feature in most cases and they are even considered as gambling in certain countries, but they are a common way of getting additional income for game developers. Paying real money for a chance of getting an exclusive cosmetic item or a minor boost is something that most players agree with, but when we are talking of items that give you a certain advantage in combat all alarms seem to trigger for most people, especially when it comes to PvP. The Elder Scrolls Online is far from being a pay-to-win game, and every item that you can get from a loot box can be obtained by other means in the game, but the recent purchase of Zenimax by Microsoft is bound to bring some changes to the game, and it seems that there is a major one on the way when it comes to loot boxes.
A new gameplay system is coming to The Elder Scrolls Online with Update 30. The new Endeavors system will include weekly and daily tasks that will reward you with a new type of currency in the game if you complete them, the Seals of Endeavor. Those tasks can include a wide range of activities including crafting, stealing, using certain abilities against enemies, harvesting resources, and more. As most of those things are already being done by most of The Elder Scrolls Online players, the Endeavors system will not have a great impact on the gameplay but it will reward you for playing the game. The best thing about the system is that you can use Seals of Endeavor to purchase any currently available Crown Crate items, including XP scrolls. The currency will be account-based so it won't matter if you have multiple characters. As you can imagine, it will be a great addition to the game, as you will be able to save as many Seals as you want to spend them as you see fit, and unlock that specific pet or mount you have been dreaming of without spending a dime.
The Endeavors system will be part of Update 30 for The Elder Scrolls Online, which is scheduled to launch at some point in June if everything goes according to Zenimax's plans. The game is currently immersed in the events of Gates of Oblivion, a year-long adventure that will pit players against a powerful lord of the Daedra in a thrilling storyline that also includes a brand new expansion full of interesting features, Blackwood.
