Mashinky is designed much like a board game. As a train magnate, you must lay down tracks and build stations on a procedurally generated map. You will need to research and purchase new types of trains, build your structures and rails on difficult terrain, manage routes and schedules, make a profit of it all. As your empire expands, you will need to upgrade your buildings, and trains to meet the growing demand. Each upgrade gives a greater benefit: larger containers, better processing rules, and new kinds of cargo to deliver.

The game uses a unique mix of 3d graphics and an isometric view, letting you zoom in to see highly detailed graphics of moving trains and even ride one if you wish. Then you can zoom out to view the map as a whole. Finally, you can play in different eras, from the dawn of the Age of Steam to the present, and eventually into the future.
