What can mankind do to find out what our role in the cosmos is? That is what we will try to find out in Per Aspera. This is a single-player game combining strategy and simulation which takes place on a sandbox representation of planet Mars. You will become an artificial consciousness based on the mind of a scientist, called AMI, whose task is to terraform the surface of the Red Planet and build the whole infrastructure needed for the arrival of humans. It will be a big and problematic challenge to make Mars a green place, rich in flora and with environmental conditions suitable for human life. Along with the different obstacles, you may also discover how your predecessors tried to do it. Despite the fact that you will start the game on your own, the success of the mission will be supervised by a crew from Houston, with whom you will be in contact. The success of the mission may depend on the relationship you build with them and the decisions you make.

The whole area of Mars is now at your disposal. You can see it all from the orbital view, in which the actual image of the planet is based on data from NASA. Your tasks include collecting resources and constructing various buildings. In the beginning, you will operate in a limited area but it will expand as your base grows. Over time, water reservoirs and various vegetation will appear, and the atmosphere will start to change to "more earthly". An interesting aspect of Per Aspera is that the technology you will use and the processes you will implement on Mars are based on concepts, scientific rules, and research of different space agencies and the knowledge of engineers working in them. Graphically, Per Aspera resembles a topographical representation of the planet, which contributes to good readability and easy orientation.

Help humanity to become an interplanetary species!

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I directly control the terraforming process of individual tiles, or is it automated based on resource allocation and research?
Terraforming in Per Aspera is primarily automated. You allocate resources and research technologies to influence the environment, but the actual transformation of tiles is a consequence of these broader strategic decisions.
How does the game handle the unexpected arrival of meteor showers or other environmental disasters, and what mitigation options are available?
Meteor showers and other disasters are dynamic events that you must react to. Mitigation involves deploying defensive structures, altering resource distribution, and potentially sacrificing less critical areas to protect vital infrastructure.
Does the game simulate the effects of different atmospheric compositions on the performance of my structures and the overall habitability of the planet?
Yes, atmospheric composition, along with other planetary conditions, directly impacts the efficiency of your structures. You must account for these factors when planning your base layout and resource management.
Are there any 'soft' resources that are used for research or other non-production purposes, and if so, how do I acquire them?
Yes, 'soft' resources, like data and knowledge gained from exploration and analysis, are crucial for research. These are acquired primarily through completing missions, exploring ruins, and analyzing collected samples.
How granular is the control over robotic units and their tasks, and can I create custom automation routines?
You have a high degree of control over robotic units, assigning tasks like resource gathering, construction, and defense. While full custom automation routines aren't available, you can define work priorities and set conditional behaviors.
What is the role of human colonists, if any, and how do they interact with the largely automated gameplay?
Human colonists are not a core element of the gameplay. Your primary focus is on managing the robotic workforce and automated infrastructure to achieve your terraforming goals.
Does the game feature any diplomacy or interaction with other factions or entities, either on Mars or from Earth?
The game incorporates limited interaction with external entities through mission objectives, resource trading, and narrative events. However, the core focus remains on managing your own base and terraforming efforts.
How does the game distinguish between different types of resources, and how are these resources transported and managed throughout the base?
Resources are categorized into various types (water, minerals, energy, etc.). Transportation and management utilize a network of pipelines, power grids, and storage facilities that you must carefully plan and expand.
Is there a research tree, and if so, how does the acquisition of new technologies impact gameplay and base development?
Yes, a comprehensive research tree allows you to unlock new technologies, improving efficiency, unlocking new structures, and expanding your terraforming capabilities, fundamentally changing how you play and solve problems.
How does the game handle the potential failure of infrastructure, and what measures can be taken to prevent or mitigate such events?
Infrastructure failure is a significant risk. Proper maintenance, redundancy in crucial systems, and adapting to environmental conditions are key to mitigating failures. Researching advanced repair technologies is also vital.
