Borderlands 4's first DLC adds a new character and more

The first major expansion for Borderlands 4 has officially been revealed. Titled Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, the upcoming story pack will arrive on March 26, 2026, bringing a brand-new adventure, a playable Vault Hunter, and a mysterious new location to explore.

A new Vault Hunter and a thrilling adventure

The expansion places longtime series character Ellie at the center of the story. Known for her mechanical skills and bold personality, Ellie now plays a key role in a new narrative set on the frozen region known as the Whispering Glacier. This previously unseen area on the planet Kairos introduces a darker atmosphere than players may expect from the series, drawing inspiration from cosmic horror themes while still maintaining the franchise's signature chaotic story.

Alongside the new campaign, players will gain access to an entirely new Vault Hunter called C4SH. This rogue robot fighter brings a distinctive combat style focused on high-risk abilities and unpredictable mechanics tied to luck and chance. Once unlocked, C4SH can be used throughout the main game as well as the expansion's missions, giving players new ways to approach battles.

Beyond its story and new character, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC also adds a variety of fresh gameplay elements. Players can expect to face new bosses, miniboss encounters, and additional enemy types scattered throughout the Whispering Glacier. As with any Borderlands expansion, the hunt for loot remains a central feature, with new Legendary gear, class mods, and cosmetic rewards available to collect.

The content pack is designed to expand the game's progression with extra challenges and new equipment for players who have already completed the base campaign. Cosmetic items such as character skins and weapon customizations will also be included, offering additional rewards for those who dive into the expansion's missions.

Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned marks the first major piece of post-launch story content planned for Borderlands 4.
