Season of Slaughter officially launches on March 11, 2026. This "bridge season," spanning only 48 days, is designed to be a high-octane experience, focusing on fast-paced combat and explosive power as we prepare for the significant expansion, Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred.
For the first time in Diablo history, players can directly control the iconic Butcher.
Activation: You can trigger this form by interacting with "Shrines of Slaughter" in Helltide zones, participating in the "Ceremony of Slaughter" in the Fields of Hatred, or maintaining high killstreaks within the new "Slaughterhouse" dungeons.
Exclusive Ability Set: Once transformed, your skill bar is replaced with The Butcher’s signature moves:
Hail of Hooks: Launches chains to pull targets toward you.
Hell Charge: A powerful dash that stuns enemies and deals massive damage.
Furnace Blast: Unleashes a devastating area-of-effect explosion.
"Fresh Meat" Currency: Defeating enemies while in this form grants you "Fresh Meat," a special currency used to trade for exclusive season-themed gear.
To encourage aggressive play, Blizzard has introduced a streak-based scoring system:
Mechanics: Continuously defeating enemies without a break (maximum 5-second window) increases your XP and reputation rewards through a multiplier.
Bloodied Gear: These new items feature a hidden "Persistence" stat, increasing your chances of finding Legendary or Ancestral loot when your killstreak exceeds 50.
Unlike traditional dungeons, Slaughterhouses are designed as arena-style challenges:
Structure: Enclosed arenas where waves of enemies spawn continuously.
Difficulty: Ranging from Tiers 1 to 3. At Tier 3, the final boss is an "Enhanced" version of The Butcher, offering a significant challenge for those who truly want to test their skills.
To gather community feedback for the Lord of Hatred expansion, Blizzard is offering a free Paladin trial:
Schedule: From March 11 to March 18, 2026.
Scope: All players can test the Paladin class up to level 25.
Progression: Any achievements and progress made with your Paladin during this trial will be saved and carried over when the expansion officially launches on April 28, 2026.
A special treat for fans—a collaboration with DOOM: The Dark Ages. Through the "Reliquary" system, you can collect exclusive cosmetics inspired by the brutal aesthetic of the DOOM franchise, giving your character a fearsome, iconic look.
