AMD says that most gamers don’t need more than 8GB of VRAM, following the launch of their new GPU
At Computex, AMD introduced its Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card. With this GPU, AMD's goal is to offer better value compared to Nvidia’s RTX 50 series GPUs, particularly Nvidia’s RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti. Upon its release, the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT will come in both 8GB and 16GB VRAM variants.
In general, the feedback from the PC gaming community regarding AMD’s RX 9060 XT has been favorable. Nevertheless, many gamers are unhappy with AMD's choice to debut a nearly $300 GPU that offers only 8GB of VRAM. Simply put, 8GB of VRAM can struggle to handle many contemporary PC games without complications. Still, AMD claims there is a market for a more affordable RX 9060 XT model.
Majority of gamers are still playing at 1080p and have no use for more than 8GB of memory. Most played games WW are mostly esports games. We wouldn't build it if there wasn't a market for it. If 8GB isn't right for you then there's 16GB. Same GPU, no compromise, just memory…

AMD’s Frank Azor has defended the 8GB RX 9060 XT option, noting that the 16GB version is available “if 8GB isn’t suitable for you.” He also mentioned that “Most played games WW (Worldwide) are primarily esports games,” suggesting that players focused on these titles typically do not require additional GPU memory.
Frank Azor’s points hold value. Many gamers exclusively play lightweight esports games that do not demand a significant amount of VRAM to function. However, gamers who prefer new AAA titles may face problems when using an 8GB graphics card. This is particularly true for users with older motherboards.
We advise those purchasing the RX 9060 XT to opt for the 16GB model. The additional VRAM will enhance the longevity of your graphics card as a more effective GPU option. While a number of esports titles do not necessitate extra VRAM, that extra memory will be beneficial when playing new releases. Unless your gaming is limited to esports titles, having more than 8GB of GPU memory is advantageous.
The AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT is generating buzz in the market with its impressive performance and cutting-edge features. However, if you aim to optimize your performance for 4K gaming and demanding creative projects, the Radeon RX 9070 emerges as the top choice.
