Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s Pre-Order Bonus Is unique on Xbox

The recent look at the campaign convinced many players to get the game already but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is giving players another reason to pre-order the game. However, there is a curious twist attached to the game's new weapon blueprint: only Xbox Series X/S players will actually get to see its special version. Activision has revealed the Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint, a bonus included with digital pre-orders of Modern Warfare 4. The blueprint is available across all supported platforms, but its appearance changes depending on where you play.

One M4, Two Very Different Looks

The Inner Circuit blueprint comes with a rather appropriate name, since its Xbox version lets players see what is normally hidden beneath the weapon's exterior. On Xbox Series X/S, the M4 receives a translucent OG Green finish inspired by classic transparent Xbox hardware. The design is also a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Xbox, giving the weapon a nostalgic green-and-transparent appearance that makes its internal components part of the aesthetic.

There is, however, an important catch. That version is exclusive to Xbox Series X/S consoles. If you redeem the blueprint elsewhere, you will receive the same weapon build but with a conventional appearance instead. And it goes even further: the special Xbox treatment isn't something you can simply equip or toggle on another platform. Activision says the appearance is platform-specific. That means if an Xbox player brings the translucent-green M4 into a cross-platform match, players on PC, PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2 will see the standard version instead. In other words, the Xbox player gets to enjoy a weapon that everyone else technically owns but can't actually see in its fanciest form.

The Inner Circuit isn't merely an elaborate skin, either. The blueprint arrives with five attachments designed around mobility, handling and combat at close-to-medium range. Its configuration includes the 11.5" Shortline Barrel, FTAC Dominion Muzzle, FSS Fireline Grip, SZ Prima-4 Dot Optic and ZLR ASP50 Stock. According to Activision, the setup improves accuracy, handling and mobility compared with the base M4, although players sacrifice some effectiveness at longer ranges. That makes the blueprint particularly suitable for aggressive players who like to close the distance quickly. The shorter barrel and retractable stock improve movement and handling, while the muzzle helps control recoil during sustained fire.

Fortunately, both versions of the blueprint are functionally identical. The Xbox-exclusive treatment doesn't provide a gameplay advantage. The attachments, performance and weapon build remain the same regardless of platform.

A Strange Kind of Xbox Bonus

All this makes the Inner Circuit M4 an unusual pre-order reward. PlayStation, PC and Switch 2 players aren't missing out on the weapon itself, but they are missing the version that Activision clearly designed to be the star of the show. The decision is particularly amusing in cross-platform matches as the skin acts essentially as an Xbox-exclusive visual flex rather than an exclusive weapon.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC, as well as Nintendo Switch 2.
