Carnage Unleashed: Marvel Tōkon's Symbiote Killer
Carnage enters MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls as one of the game's most vicious villains, bringing the brutal personality of Cletus Kasady and his symbiote into Arc System Works' 4v4 fighting system. Once a psychopathic serial killer, Kasady became Carnage after bonding with a symbiote, transforming him into a creature driven almost entirely by violence and destruction. In MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Carnage remains imprisoned in the Raft, but the tournament gives him another opportunity to unleash his murderous instincts. His visual design emphasizes the symbiote's living nature, with his arms becoming blades and tendrils that extend his attacks.
Rather than presenting Carnage as a conventional super-powered fighter, the game uses his symbiote to capture his unpredictable and merciless nature. His inclusion also marks an important moment for the character, as MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls represents Carnage's fighting-game debut.
How Carnage Turns Infection Into Deadly Pressure
From a gameplay perspective, Carnage is built around aggression, pressure, and his unique infection mechanic, making him one of the more unconventional fighters in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. His symbiote tendrils can infect opponents, creating opportunities to strengthen his offense and even drain health through their guard. This encourages Carnage players to constantly maintain momentum rather than retreat after landing an attack. Among other fighting games, D'Vorah from Mortal Kombat is perhaps the closest comparison in concept, as both characters weaponize living biological creatures to create persistent offensive pressure.
However, D'Vorah generally emphasizes traps, setplay, and space control, while Carnage focuses more heavily on relentless aggression. Venom from Marvel vs. Capcom is another natural comparison, particularly because both characters transform their symbiotes into extended limbs, projectiles, and unconventional attack angles. Carnage, however, pushes the concept further with his infection mechanic.
There are also similarities to aggressive characters such as Nagoriyuki from Guilty Gear Strive, whose threatening pressure and ability to capitalize on momentum can make opponents feel overwhelmed once he gains control. Carnage's 4v4 team format adds another layer, allowing players to combine his infection-based offense with assists and character switches. The result is a fighter who rewards players for staying on the offensive and turning a single successful hit into a prolonged sequence of pressure.
Carnage Player Feedback and Early Impressions
Early player feedback, however, has been shaped more by MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls's launch issues than by Carnage himself. The game launched on August 6, 2026, and quickly received mixed Steam reviews, with players reporting PC performance problems, frame-rate drops, online issues, and concerns surrounding PSN requirements and Linux compatibility. Those problems have affected the wider community's first impressions of the game, making it difficult to separate character-specific feedback from criticism of the overall launch.
Nevertheless, Carnage has attracted attention as one of the roster's more unusual fighters, particularly among players interested in aggressive characters and status-based mechanics. With the game still in its early competitive life and an emergency performance patch already released, Carnage's long-term reputation will likely depend on how players develop his pressure game and team synergies once the technical problems stabilize.
