MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls officially launched on August 6 for PS5 and PC, bringing Arc System Works and Marvel’s fighting game to players. Notably, soon after launch, the game’s post-launch content plans were also quickly updated, giving players a look at what is coming throughout Year 1.

Phoenix Cyclops leads Year 1 with the power of the Phoenix Force

The first confirmed character for Year 1 is Phoenix Cyclops, a special version of Cyclops inspired by the Phoenix Five from Avengers vs. X-Men. Rather than relying solely on the X-Men leader’s familiar abilities, such as his Optic Blast and close-range attacks, this version also wields the power of the Phoenix Force, giving Scott Summers a completely different look and fighting style. Phoenix Cyclops will also be the first character added to the game as part of the Year 1 plan.

Following Phoenix Cyclops, the Year 1 Characters & Stage Pass will continue to roll out in several stages. The currently announced schedule is:

October–December 2026: Phoenix Cyclops
January–March 2027: Character 2
April–June 2027: Character 3 and Stage 1
July–September 2027: Character 4

In total, the Year 1 Pass will add four playable characters and one new stage. Aside from Phoenix Cyclops, the identities of the other three characters have yet to be revealed, while no further details about the new stage have been announced. The current roadmap runs through September 2027, with the Year 1 content being released across several stages rather than all at once.

Alongside the characters and stage, the Pass also includes a set of character poses for the results screen, with this content unlocked immediately. The Year 1 Characters & Stage Pass is included with the Digital Deluxe Edition and Ultimate Edition.

With Phoenix Cyclops confirmed and three more spots still open, Year 1 of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls leaves players with one big question: which Marvel characters will step into the fight in the upcoming content releases?

The Year 1 roadmap for MARVEL Tōkon is surprisingly clear and structured, and Phoenix Cyclops is a strong pick to kick things off. Four characters across a full year isn’t a huge amount, but the steady rollout gives players time to learn each addition and adjust team strategies. Curious to see which three characters fill the remaining slots—Marvel’s roster is massive, so the speculation alone will keep the community buzzing.

Four characters across an entire year is not a huge number, but at least the schedule is clear. Now the fun part is guessing who those other three spots are going to.

This 2D fighting game for PS5 and PC, developed by Arc System Works, throws players into epic 4-on-4 team battles packed with combos, synergies, and spectacular moves, all characterized by a vibrant art style inspired by anime and manga. The 4v4 team fighting game *Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls* offers a total of 20 playable characters at launch (with more to be added via DLC). Heroes and villains leap straight from the pages of Marvel comics to create spectacular interactive battles, taking advantage of their abilities, unique moves, synergies, and specific strategies. While most *Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls* players will likely focus on the multiplayer modes, the "Episode" mode also deserves close attention; it is essentially the title's single-player story mode.
