Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls – The Champion Enters the Arena
The Champion brings one of Marvel's most intimidating cosmic fighters into Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Known as Tryco Slatterus, the Champion of the Universe is an Elder of the Universe whose entire existence revolves around combat. Rather than pursuing conquest or wealth, he searches for worthy opponents capable of challenging his extraordinary strength. In Tōkon, this obsession places him at the center of the game's tournament, where he takes on the role of a major antagonist and the final challenge of Episode Mode.
A Powerhouse Built to Fight Alone
Champion stands out from Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls because his gameplay feels closer to a boss character turned into a playable fighter. While the roster generally revolves around team combinations, assists, and coordinated pressure, Champion can rely heavily on his own physical power. His design is reminiscent of classic fighting-game grapplers such as Zangief from Street Fighter, with a focus on command grabs, devastating throws, powerful normals, and punishing close-range attacks. However, his large size and aggressive movement also give him some similarities to Juggernaut from Marvel vs. Capcom, where raw power and momentum can become more important than intricate combos.
His Crowd Pleaser mechanic gives him another distinctive identity. Rather than simply building resources through conventional attacks, Champion encourages players to maintain pressure and put on a spectacle before unleashing Supernova Slam. This creates a gameplay rhythm somewhat comparable to characters such as King from Tekken, who rewards players for successfully getting into grappling range, while Champion's overwhelming presence can also remind fighting-game veterans of Sagat or Hugo when they want to control space through powerful attacks.
Player Reactions to Marvel's Cosmic Fighter
Champion has also drawn attention because he differs so dramatically from the game's other characters. His enormous size, unique mechanics, and solo-focused design add a distinct playstyle to the roster rather than simply adding another conventional team fighter. Some players have particularly enjoyed the novelty of controlling a character who feels like he stepped directly out of a boss battle.
The biggest difference is that Champion's design embraces the fantasy of being the ultimate combatant. Instead of depending on elaborate team setups like many Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls characters, he can walk into an exchange, absorb pressure, close the distance, and punish an opponent with a devastating grab or super. That makes him particularly attractive to players who enjoy heavyweight characters such as Zangief, Hugo, King, or Juggernaut—but want something that feels closer to controlling a final boss than a traditional grappler.
For Marvel fans, Champion also provides an opportunity to explore a less commonly featured cosmic character. His combination of comic-book lore, boss-like presentation, and heavyweight gameplay makes him one of the more distinctive additions to Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls.
