Epic Games Store offers award-winning puzzle hit Viewfinder for free

The Epic Games Store’s daily freebie has received another update, with Viewfinder taking the place of yesterday’s giveaway, SKALD: Against the Black Priory. PC gamers can claim this puzzle title and keep it permanently if they do so before the next free game becomes available tomorrow, December 30. 

Developed by Sad Owl Studios, Viewfinder is a distinctive single-player puzzle game that challenges players to solve problems using a camera, where perspective is key. The gameplay centers on modifying existing artwork or photographing the levels from different angles, allowing players to alter reality by incorporating these images into the world.

Nearly all puzzles require blending two-dimensional pictures into the three-dimensional environment, creating new configurations to advance and complete objectives. Gamers also appreciate the game's rewind feature, which promotes inventive trial-and-error gameplay. The artistic style has garnered much acclaim, and the sound design enhances the overall hand-drawn aesthetics of Viewfinder.

The game’s sci-fi concept is thought-provoking, although the storyline and characters are somewhat underdeveloped. Nonetheless, Viewfinder has received positive reviews, boasting a 92% approval rating on Steam with over 5,400 evaluations. It has also won several awards at The Game Awards, the IndieCade Festival, The Golden Joysticks, BAFTA, and others.

The giveaway for Viewfinder is currently active on the Epic Games Store for the next 21 hours as of this writing. The holiday promotion will be available for a few more days before it concludes. The next mystery freebie will be unveiled and accessible to all PC gamers at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET on December 30.
